Q: What is this Message Board for ? A: There are two main purposes. (i) To help Redcar people to find each other and stay in touch by acting as a focal point. (ii) For chatting, socialising, sharing memories, photos, opinions, ideas, discussing, informing, having a laugh... What you do here is up to you, just read at first if you like. but it's more fun to participate! You don't have to use your real name, you can be as anonymous as you like... Have a positive attitude, don't be quick to take offense, and play safe until you catch the atmosphere is the best advice if this sort of thing is new to you. If the topics aren't to your taste, start one YOU are interested in, and if you have any ideas or suggestions, feel free. |
Q: How do I change / update my details ? A: Click the 'Profile' link on the top left of the main page. I've kept the compulsory stuff to the bare minimum, but It's fair in that the less you say about yourself, the less you can see about other people. |
Q: How private is my information ? A: Your username, location, date of registration are public. Whatever else you put on the membership form will be visible only to other registered members, U2U posts are visible only to the sender and receiver. nb. Personal details or email addresses will [b]never[/b] be sold or given to anyone else. |
Q: How do I change or delete my posts ? A: Click the word 'Edit' next to your message and then either change it or tick the Delete box. Then press 'submit'. Useful for those times when you post something late at night under the influence... *grin* You can also delete a thread that you have started by clicking the 'delete thread' link at the bottom of the thread display page. |
Q: How do I upload/add a photo ? A: Make sure the photo is on your hard drive 800 pixels wide (or less) and the filesize is 200kb or less - although the smaller the better. Method 1: Start a new message in the topic you want to display the image. Type at least 7 letters and then click on the 'Photos?' button to the right of the textarea box. At the bottom there will be a 'browse' button. Click on it and find the photo on your hard drive. Click once on the image then click 'open' button. It will add the path next to the browse button. Click the the 'post' button to upload the photo and post the message. Method 2: You can also click on the 'photos' link on the main menu. (Top of screen) Then click on the 'browse' button and find the photo on your hard drive. Click once on the image name and then click the open' button. Click the 'submit' button and the image will be added to you list. To use the image in a post, click on the 'photos' button to the right of the textarea box.. This time a list of your photos will show. Click the name of the image and it will add it to your post. |
Q: Can I start a new subject ? A: Yes. Just click on 'New Topic'. |
Q: What's the "edit" button next to my posts for ? A: It let's you change or delete your post. eg If you need to change a spelling or add something later. |
Q: How do I find out about my fellow members ? A: Click the 'People' link at the top of the page. Then you can view by age, location, name, or the date that they registered. You can also search for certain words that might occur in their real name or bio using the search feature. eg. If you search for 'ici' or 'wilton' you might find people who used to work at ICI... If anyone has a trade or service, they can put it in their bio, so that somebody looking for a plumber can simply search for the word 'plumber'... The 'bio' section doesn't have to be your life story, it can be an advert, or an information source or whatever. |
Q: I have a question that isn't answered here.. A: Send a U2U to 'Admin', or email admin@redcar.net I don't bite! (Well not usually...) Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to notify me immediately. either by email: admin@redcar.net or preferably via a u2u message. I don't check email very often, and it might not make it through the spam filter.. so a u2u is much more likely to be noticed. |
Q: How do I do those smilies/pictures/special effects/links ... ? A: [b]Smilies:[b] You need to type a special code word for each smiley, and put colons -> : around it. For example:  =
 =
 =
 = :nurse: =
:policeman: =
:fireman: =
There are LOTS more, if you can find the right words! ps. If you love smileys, Kalliopi recommends Smileypad . Also, you can use BB Code, a simplified version of HTML, in your posts to create certain effects. [b]Bold Text[/b] [i]Italic Text[/i] [u]Underlined Text[/u] [color=red]This color is red[/color] [size=3]This font size is 3[/size] http://www.redcar.net to add a link. You need the "http://" bit to make it "work" . |
